Installation

Upload the theme to your theme folder and activate it from your administration panel.

Plugins requeriments

In order to show the proper archive pages, this theme needs the Custom Query String Plugin.

Download the plugin and install it on your Wordpress.

Settings

+ Go to Settings > CQS
+ Choose ‘is_category’ in New Condition
+ Choose the number of thumbnails you wish to show on the archive pages. (All –> -1)

For example: is_category show -1 posts per page, ordered by date DESC.

How to post

You need to upload your photo and create a thumbnail for it.

This template is set to show pictures of 640×480px. If you want to show bigger pictures, you must change the width in the CSS at the container class.

Post your image in the POST field and your thumbnail in the EXCERPT field. Please, do not forget to do this or your Archive pages won’t show the thumbnails.

If you want to add a description or comment your photo, you can do it under the picture in the POST field using blockquote.

Archive

Create a page called “Archive” using “Archives” as default template. This will show all the thumbnails.

Navigation

You can add or change the navigation links. To do that, go to menu.php.

  1. Any bugs, suggestions or comments, please leave a reply!

  2. Will this theme work if I take photo code from flickr and post in the POST area ….

Can’t it create thumbnails automatically once I upload the big photo?

  3. @Kapil: Yes, it will work with any photo url.

And Wordpress has an option to create thumbnails automatically once you upload a picture, but you still have to add the thumbnail url manually in the EXCERPT area.

  4. This is a terrific theme, thank you!
I’m stuck on the archives part though. I created a page after I activated the theme called Archive- but nothing happened.

    when you state-

[Create a page called “Archive” using “Archives” as default template. This will show all the thumbnails]

what do you mean by using ‘archives’ as a default template? I’m lost there..

anxious to get this up and running- will be back to donate and thanks 4 any help :)

  5. @Cindy: When you create a new page, down on the options you get “Page Template”. There, you have to choose “Archives” instead of “Default”.

  6. hi Taly and thanks for the quick reply. I did everything stated above, and my archive page doesn’t load. When I click ‘archive’ under the photo, it takes me to a blank page that states:
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

I’ve started from scratch 3 times, and although the instructions are quite simple, something isn’t working either within the CQS plugin or not sure what.

Any thoughts? Appreciate your help :)

  7. @Cindy: For what I can see in your site, your problem is the navigation bar.

You have to go to the theme and replace the url in the navigation for your own pages in the header.php file.

  8. thanks again, will give it a whirl :)

  9. Wonderful design!

  10. Hey! I am trying to make a photoblog using wordpress and I would really like to use your theme, but I can’t find where to upload the files from the theme. How do I install this theme on Wordpress? Can you help? Thanks!

  11. RaluK: This theme works the same way every other theme. Follow the instructions at Wordpress.org.

  12. Hi there and thanks for posting your templates for everyone to use. Lovely design.

Please excuse my ignorance but where do we uplad the images to? How is this done? FTP of somewhere through the WP console. In the instructions it says “upload your images.”

I have installed this template 3 time but each time I have problems when clicking on the “About Us” and “Archive” links. Page Not Found. When I un-install the template Wordpress works just fine.

Also tried changing the name of the button “About” to “About Jon” and nothing happend. Also tried creating a new page but the link dosent appear on the template.

Is there something wrong or is that the template?

    Help!

  13. @MalHyp: You need to know how you use basic functions in wordpress first.

    1) Read this to know how you manage images with Wordpress.

    2) The about and archive pages need to be created first. Then, you have to replace the links for YOUR links (unless you’re using Pretty permalinks).

The links are just examples. You need to go to menu.php and customize that. The link won’t appear on the template once you’ve created the page. You have to do it manually.

  14. Love this theme! Thanks!

Just one problem. I have looked in every menu and Googled it, but can’t figure out how to turn on the setting to create thumbnails. Maybe you could point me (and others) to where it explains how to do this, or tell us how to do it? VERY much appreciated!

  15. Very nice theme; I’m using on my brand new site (http://paulsphotos.org/); thanks.

  16. Taly,
Beautiful design. Setup has gone swimmingly except that the current version of wordpress only allows text in excerpts. When I try to add a thumbnail jpg it only saves the name of the file. As a result the archives page ends up with filenames only. Any suggestions?
    Denise

  17. @xgravity23: There’s no special setting to create thumbnail. Just follow the instruccions to post images, with this theme is exactly the same.

@Denise: None of the wordpress previous versions supported images on the excerpt field. You have to post the thumb file in html format, not just the thumb url. For example:

    < img src="thumb-url.jpg" alt="my photo" />

  18. Hi!
