Installation
Upload the theme to your theme folder and activate it from your administration panel.
Plugins requeriments
In order to show the proper archive pages, this theme needs the Custom Query String Plugin.
Download the plugin and install it on your Wordpress.
Settings
+ Go to Settings > CQS
+ Choose ‘is_category’ in New Condition
+ Choose the number of thumbnails you wish to show on the archive pages. (All –> -1)
+ Choose ‘is_monthly’ in New Condition
+ Choose the number of thumbnails you wish to show on the archive pages. (All –> -1)
For example: is_category show -1 posts per page, ordered by date DESC.
How to post
You need to upload your photo and create a thumbnail for it.
This template is width fluid. It doesn’t matter how big is your picture, it will always show it in the middle of the screen.
Post your image (the url) in the POST field and your thumbnail in the EXCERPT field. Please, do not forget to do this or your Archive pages won’t show the thumbnails.
If you want to add a description or comment your photo, you can do it under the picture in the POST field using blockquote.
Archive
Create a page called “Archive” using “Archives” as default template. This will show all the thumbnails and both monthly and categories archive.
Navigation
You can add or change the navigation links. To do that, go to header.php.

first off, i’d like to say, thank you for releasing this theme, it really is awesome. however, i can’t seem to make the “archive” work, i followed the instructions (created thumbnails) but it still gives me the default 404 page.
can you please provide a more detailed steps on how to accomplish this? thanks.

great great theme, just what i’ve been looking for for WP…prob is…i can’t seem to make the ‘Archive’ page work on my site…i’ve tried everything up there, but still showing error, even my ‘about’ page won’t show up and is also showing an error 404 page….hulp!:) or maybe i haven’t implemented the ff. correctly:

@mom: You need to make the thumbnail yourself or through Wordpress when you upload an image. Then you put the URL of that thumbnail into the Excerpt field.

Hi! First of all, GREAT THEME! I only have one problem, but it’s driving me crazyyyyy! And no one else seems to have this issue. Only me. There’s a link (for “previous”) that takes up the whole page! How do I get rid of it? Anywhere a guest happens to click or hover on the entire width of the browser window, there it is! I don’t notice that on your demo or on any of the others I have checked out. I dont have my images linked to anything. I checked. So, what am I doing wrong?
It’s like there’s some “hot link” that’s stretched the entire page.

Never mind on the comment I sent you. I figured it out. Was some weird way a few of my photos were posted. I fixed it.
But I have a “category” question: I have a few photos that have more than 1 category. Yet they dont all show. For instance, 2 photos category “Boulder” and one of those also have a category “family”. That latter photo won’t appear in the “boulder” category, since I assigned it more than 1 category. How to fix? Hope you can understand what I mean.

Hello there! Simple and tasteful theme! I love it!
Got 3 questions for you:
1. I already got hundreds of pictures uploaded and thumbnails (next to them generated by wp). Where should i move them (the thumbnails) in order to be seen by the archive ??
2. Any text written between photos in my posts is displayed next to the pictures (not under it as I put it when writing the post) and this screws up the layout (when there are more then 2 pictures on the same line). How can I make your theme to display only one picture on the same line AND display the text under the picture?
3. If I put only one small portret styled picture and a long text the width of the text is huge compared to the width of the pictures and looks awful. How can I change the maximum width?
P.S. All this problems apply to already posted pictures (i know that from now on if I publish something following your instructions there should be no problems but how about the old pages…)

1. The thumbnail url has to be in the EXCERPT field.
2. That’s weird… The text should go into de
blockquoteclass, that way, it wouldn’t be as wide as the screen. If you want to change that, take a look at the CSS and change that width size.(Pearhaps you could send me your url so I can see what’s the problem?)
3. It’s pretty possible you’ll have to edit all previous posts. I’m sorry… I know it sucks, but I don’t really know what kind of theme you have been using before this. It depends a lot on the theme.
Maybe if your images are all of the same width, you could fix the size and you will have no problem. I don’t know.

Never mind. Not being able to modify all posts at once to “atach” the thumbnail is a deal breaker for me! But is a nice and tasteful theme nonetheless and I would like to see it a little bit more polished!

How to post

I installed your theme, and got the main page and archive pages showing. However, when I go to create a new post — only the ‘tag’ option is showing, all other post properties (ie. category, excerpt, template) are missing. Also, the main page of my site will display the latest post, but if I hit previous or next buttons the image disappears.
@Doodler: You have several issues:
1) If something is wrong with the way your write post page shows, it’s a Wordpress issue, nothing to do with the theme. You should try searching about it on the Wordpress.org forums. It’s usually pretty helpful.
2) Your archive page is not working. You think it is because it shows monthly and categories archive, but it also should show the thumbnails. For what I see in the source code, you forgot to post your thumbnail in the excerpt field (but if you don’t see it, then you should fix issue 1 first)
3) Try posting the whole image url (not only “images/name.jpg”) in your post. It’s probably the wrong path, that’s why it doesn’t show properly on single pages.

Looks like something was screwy with my wordpress installation.
I re-installed and it works
There are still some issues with the previous/next navigation showing, but this issue occurs even with default theme.

I only have one problem, and that’s with the thumbnails.
I put the link in the “excerpt” section, but it only shows the link in my archives, not the thumbnail. Do you know why this may be?
I managed to get it to work. I had to add HTML to the excerpt. I used the tag, the tag, and the tag.
I tried just the tag as well, but it didn’t work.
Silly me, HTML tags will be interpreted as such.
I used the html, body, and img tags.

When I go to my archives page, I see the thumbnails. I can then select a category from the drop-down list, and only images within the selected category are displayed. So far so good. However, when I go to view the images within that category, I cycle through all the images AS WELL as the images within the other categories!
Viewing your demo, with only one image per category, I get the impression that I am supposed to cycle through all the images within the selected category. Once I have cycled through those images, I am returned to the archive page.
That makes sense to me, and that is how it’s working on your demo. Any advice as to how to only view images within the selected category? As well as return to the archive page before the first image, or after the last image?
@Joey: You don’t need to use all the html tags. Just
img src.@Ken: No. It won’t navigate within the category. Every thumbnail in the category archive links to the single page. And the navigation for the single page is the regular one.
I’m not sure you can cycle between categories the way the theme is constructed. The category page is the one with the thumbnails… Maybe if you make the category page with posts instead of excerpts. I’m not sure.
And about the returning to the archive pages… that’s because the new versions of Wordpress include pages into the navigation. To make sure the Archive page would show always at the end, you should change the publication date to be the oldest.

Nice theme, and I installed it on the site linked to my name on the left here.
I haven’t really played with it or customize it yet to my needs, but looks good so far! I’ll probably darken the text a little, maybe add navigation on top of the image, and add a random feature ..
The only thing that is a little irritating (wp 2.7) is that I have to insert the image and the thumbnail into the post area, then ctrl-x and move the thumbnail to the excerpt area. I don’t know if I can just insert directly into that spot. I hope I remember to do that each time
If you know of an easier way to achieve that, I’d be interested in knowing!

@HART: I’ve noticed that. I haven’t found a way to do it differently, but I think it’s far more easy to post pictures with the latest versions of wordpress than back when we didn’t have the media feature. So I’m pretty happy with it personally.

@Cristiano: You’re not using the right permalinks. Your about page isn’t http://www.cristianomenger.com/ateliefotografico/about, it’s http://www.cristianomenger.com/ateliefotografico/?page_id=2. So, your archive page could be the same. Go check the file “header.php” and change the links for the right ones.
If you still don’t see the thumbs on your archive page, check that you have the Custom Query String Plugin installed and that you posted the thumbnail image in the Excerpt field.

I’m attempting to have a comments placeholder in the navigation bar when comments are shown. As it is now, “comments (#)” disappears when clicked. I would like it to stay there. Is that possible?

Hi Taly, I want a slideshow to begin in a single window using your template, i tried doing it on your Pixelpost version using DF Gallery and also the flash slideshow plugin. I was not successful, any recommendations would be very appreciated. Do you know if using Wordpress will give me better results for what Im looking to do? I dont care as much for the blogging aspect as I do to have a nice, clean slideshow with smooth transitions on a very clean template.

Go to ‘Edit Pages’ screen
When you move your cursor over a page’s title, your internet status bar should show the page’s id#. At the end of this address it should say =post#
Keep this #
Now go to your editor and open up Header, or wherever your page links are located.
This is how your archive link might look:
<a href=”/archive” title=”archives”>archive
Change it to the following, inserting your #:
<a href=”/?p=#” title=”archives”>archive
Now you may have to do this in Archives Page Template, and Single Post, as well.

Hi, I’ve changed my template against ‘Spotless’, due to the fact that the big benefit of it is ‘images are always centerd, landscape or protrait’. Now i got the archive working but without putting the thumbnail in the excerpt field. (on my old template it was used for something else).

Hi, I’m trying to use NextGen for slideshows on the great theme that you have created. Only shortcode doesn’t seem to work at all, it just appears as text on the post ie. [gallery="1"]. Is this something to do with the theme or wordpress itself?

Hola Taly, tengo un problema con mi fotoblog, cuando se muestra la nube de etiquetas (tags) y pincho sobre una, sólo muestra una foto (hay 18 con esa etiqueta).
¿Sabes a qué puede deberse?
He probado con distingos puglins (tags cloud) y ninguno funciona, o sea que debe ser un problema del “theme”.
Si hago una nube de etiquetas de las categorías, sí que funciona ¿?

Awesome theme, but I am having the hardest time with the archive page. I installed the Custom Query Plug-In, and I adjusted the settings as instructed in the CQS. I also inserted the thumbnail code into the Excerpt ().
… but i keep getting a blank archive page. Any ideas as to what I may have done wrong, or maybe overlooked? Thanks in advance.

Really nice looking theme. I just moved my photoblog from PixelPost to WP, and Spotless is my theme of choice.
I’m having one problem, though, with setting up my archives page: The templates chooser on the page editor doesn’t show up. I’m not sure if this is a problem with CQS or the theme, but it worked about 5 minutes ago with a different theme… Any suggestions? I’m using CQS 2.9 and WP 2.7.1.

first i created the custom field EXCERPT and POST with the correct value,
second i ‘ve installed the excerpt plugin, i’ve created the empty archive page.but it don’t work.
i see the empty blank.
in the source code (html) of archive page(output) i can see the link to the post but the img tag is not present and the page is blank!!

First, thanks for a beautiful theme–just what I was looking for.
I’ve got the theme up and running, but when I go back through the history (clicking the main image to go to the previous image), I eventually get to an image that takes me to the About page, not the previous image. The actual Previous link, located below the image, does take you to the previous image, but clicking the picture does not.
What could this be? I tried renaming the post, and even deleted the post. The problem just moved to the next image.

Is there kind of an automated way to create those thumbnails in the EXCERPT field? It’s kind of complicated to get the whole URL from the properties of the picture. Maybe a plugin which automatically posts the thumbnail URL to the EXCERPT field? Thanks in advance. Besides this, a lovely theme, great work
I have been searching for a good photoblog site and thanks to you, I have found it. I love spotless. However, I am relatively new to wordpress and can’t figure out how the edit the header so the about and archive links work. I get 404 errors. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Currently no text will wrap the image, it only appears above or below. The setting within the page editor in wp do nothing to change the orientation.
